There was talk here of Ford trying to steal Slate's day in the sun. I reflected on this, and yea, it makes so much sense to me. Here's my thinking...

Slate is going to enjoy a media frenzy on price day. Think pirana and somebody in the water with a bleeding cut. So you're a Ford marketer. You're not threatened by Slate - you're pretty sure they're dead in the water and won't even exist in a year. But you see that for one week in late June every media outlet and content creator on the planet is going to be generating clicks with Slate content.

So you think to yourself, "hey, why dont I get some of that free advertising?" So you start to leak just enough information so the content creators know a Ford product is coming. Just teasers.

So now on Slate day, almost every single bit of content about Slate will have a paragraph at the end. Talking about the Ford BEV truck.

Free advertising. Ford should send a "thank you" card to Slate.

Yes agree, all of a sudden the Ford UEV platform truck has started to show their pre-prototype, hidden in camo showings here in So Calif.

I am waiting for the Ford UEV myself as I drive a Mach E.

The Slate has to "wow" me in order to commit to a purchase.

Can't do that without a test drive.

The latest "event" page says there will "soon" be an 18 city tour over 2 months to show off the Slate. But of course, doesn't mention if test drives will be part of it.

Right! GM, Ford, Stelantis all pulled back from EVs famously while China barreled forward with research in batteries, motors, and other tech. Sure Ford all of a sudden has leaped past all that head start and Chinese advances in EV tech after bravely pulling their EVs off market. I’m sure it’ll charge from 20% to 80% in 5 minutes too. 🤣 The Big Three are keeping up with Chinese and Korean innovations in one place and one place only — in their dreams.

I am eagerly waiting for Ford's UEV as I am cross shopping between the Slate square back and Ford's Ranchero design.

I tried to buy a Maverick but just gave up. First dealer couldn't give me an OTD price even after waiting over an hour. Second was very straight forward about the 4k markup they were adding but I wasn't going to pay that. Thankfully I didn't need it since my Ranger is still running fine. It'll be interesting to see what actually gets released but I suspect it will be over $30k (especially after markups) and under 300 miles range.

Dealer markups and adjustments are such a big turn off, and actually a disgrace to the auto industry. There is nothing on the planet worth a $4k markup, especially a Ford. Disgraceful! The new Ford EV will be no different; and sadly I predict dealers will play the same reindeer games.

Slate is a breath of fresh air in a world dominated by greedy sales associates in a traditional dealership model. Initial appeal, if any, of the new Ford EV will quickly fade when the sales associate proudly displays his “best and final” offer.

Same. I won't be buying until early/mid 2027 anyways, so I'd like to make an informed decision. If it comes in at a higher price, I'll be out, but if it's competitive, I think more options is (generally) more good. I'm all for competition in the market

How much space would a removable midgate add to the slate’s bed if it was an option? 1/2-1 ft? Would that be worth it to anybody buying the slate?

Early units looked like they had a pass-through panel on the midgate, allowing you to potentially put things like 8' 2x4s or skis into the cab armrest area. I don't think the more recent trucks they've been showing off have that panel though. Potentially could be brought back via 3rd party or creative sawzall-ing.
