Also, why are those particular images "AI slop"? I can believe it, but I want to know what to look for. As far as I can tell, it's roughly the same some of the Slate Maker options, so is the accusation that Slate is using AI images or just that those designs are being imitated?
The pictures of wheels I posted are from the Slate Maker. So far, the only Slates are prototypes, so most of the pictures on the Slate Auto site are probably computer generated. The first two wheel pictures I posted are possibly real, but the rest is AI.

Well now that you weighed in, they look kind of sharp...
I did say it kind of tongue in cheek, but I think they're a good option that look catchy on a lot of colors, except ironically maybe not silver/gray. I think if I did bronze wheels on the Slate, it would be with a wrap to black, white, blue, or even something two tone. I think black wheels are kind of tired, even as someone who put black wheels on 3 of their last 4 trucks, but the Slate's steelies do fit the stock basic aesthetic pretty well.

I like the look of the base wheels, and I believe in the ancient lost technology of "sidewall". In theory, I do think it might be nice to have lighter options than plain steel for the lower unsprung mass, etc.?
I don't think the bigger wheels look particularly good.
FWIW I'm also a fan of having some sidewall.

Also not a fan of fixing flats.

I found a 19" tire size that has some sidewall and run-flat capability. Who knew?!

235/55R19. Tire on the left is stock 245/65R17 size.

You can have computer generated images that aren't AI.
I'm partly asking because I think it's a bad look for Slate to be using AI instead of actual modeling/art.

I think it makes more sense to order standard steelies, so as not to further delay delivery, and then look to aftermarket for wheel and tire combinations.
Yeah, wheels and tires are already standardized and interchangeable. I figure Slate mostly gave the options as examples and for letting people play with different "looks" in the Maker.
That, and for comparison with mainstream automakers having "bigger wheels" as options as well.

The hub isn't centered correctly in the wheel in at least one of them. May not be AI, but it's probably lazy photo editing.

Definitely. I love bronze wheels. Everyone loves bronze wheels!
The final monster LandCruiser Heritage editions were offered in bronze wheels, I always thought those looked pretty sharp. Althoug personally I much prefer a brighter Subaru Colin McRae 555 gold myself for wheels.

The bottom three are AI slop.
i figured most of what is shown on the Slate Auto site is AI.
The first two wheel pictures I posted are possibly real, but the rest is AI.

So apparently as the equal and opposite of people with nothing to actually contribute to a subject resorting to posting AI summaries about it, now we've got people with no actual knowledge of a subject resorting to posting 'AI' accusations about it...

Everything on the Slate site is simple standard CAD renderings. Exactly the same as countless other companies have previewed their products with multiple decades. Why on earth anybody would think to waste resources on using AI or photo editing to poorly recreate what already necessarily exists in order to be able to make their physical products is beyond me.

Since day one, at the unveiling, those aluminum 17's on the website have been real wheels...

The 20's and aero covers may only be renderings still... but sharing baseless 'AI' or photochop assumptions does not reflect well:

Ah, thanks for posting the photos, easy way to remove all doubt. My bad for not thinking to look for them.

To be fair, "why would anyone even think to use AI for this normal thing we've been able to do better for decades or centuries?!" is a common reaction to actual uses of AI. A lot of companies are explicitly looking for any place they can insert AI into their workflow.

Glad that it still seems that does not include Slate Auto.
