My current daily driver was ordered during the supply chain issues post-covid. I never saw or drove one before I bought it because none existed on the lot. The first time I drove it was when we went to pick it up. It has things that annoy me but there really wasn't any other option. All the other manufacturers have cancelled their minivan based cargo vans. I'm aiming for a cargo Slate.

I'm not afraid to put the money down, I afraid of what my wife will say to my wanting a third vehicle for a household of two drivers.

:rolleyes: <= her likely reaction
Right there with you Brother, I need to convince my wife I'm replacing the H3T with a Slate. I have 4 cars and 2 motorcycles and it's just me as the household driver. LOL.

Calendar reminder set for the 24th. According to the video, reservation holders will get first delivery ($50 deposit or the additional $300?). Then the masses????

Yeah, I've seen the same, but that's credits for the manufacturer anyway, doesn't affect us directly. Don't have the time to look into it tonight, but a thought is, with other companies dropping EV plans, those credits could be going back up in value, might be enough for Slate to discount the extended range battery.
I dug it up this morning. So, the credits are tied to the California Air Resources Board - CARB's Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate under CARB's Advanced Clean Car II (ACCII) regs. To count for a full single credit a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) must have a minimum range of 200 miles. Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) count towards the ZEV credit requirements under the ACCII mandates but only as partial (i.e. not a full one-to-one ratio) credit. The ACCII regs start this year in 2026. For CARB, by 2035 the 100% compliance to ZEV goes into effect.

A good summary is found here: Understanding California’s Advanced Clean Cars II Regulation - RMI

Sounds like another question for a Slate agent to address.

A Slate agent confirmed to me today in chat that reservation holders will have the full 30 days to place a preorder without impacting their delivery date. I was worried that I would need to place an order on day 1 in order to get an early delivery date.

I placed an early reservation (April 26, 2025) and don’t want to have a pushed back delivery date due solely to doing due diligence during the month preorders are open.

I’m looking at doing an ~10,000 mile road trip around the Continental US next spring/summer and figure it would be fun to try in a Slate rather than my current gas vehicle. I’ve run the numbers based on expected range, usable range, published charging speed, and estimated public charging costs, and it should be easily doable, just a lot of charging stops (~60 conservatively). If gas stays anywhere near its current price, it’ll be cheaper too. If delivery date is too far out, it’ll be a bummer.

Admin will probably update the spreadsheet or create a new one to show the pre-orders and delivery slots.
It would be nice to see a clean, simple chart comparing reservation date, potential delivery date and actual delivery date.
  1. Would any of the old chart info still be relevant? And how long would the new chart be relevant?
  2. Would Reservations close at start of production?
  3. Considering that not all Reservation holders will agree to make a purchase, wouldn’t delivery dates be adjusted accordingly?
Just thinking about how this might play out. Quote me all you like lool.

Great suggestion! I think the best way to handle this is to submit a change order using this form:

Slate - Reservations List Change Request

and then update your original reservation number with your Pre-Order ID number. Then populate the delivery date window given at the time of pre-order. This would be easier than trying to create a new form, unless it's somehow linked to the old one.

Admins will ultimately decide the best way to proceed.

I'm sure the folks who convert their reservation to a pre-order will also start a new thread while still brimming from all the excitement.

Friend of mine did that with a Camry hybrid during the covid supply shortage. He didn't even have the option to choose the color! They would just call him whenever one showed up at the dealer and one by one they went through their list of people either taking it or passing it on to the next person.

Not that uncommon I guess. Dec 24, wife was interested in getting a new Sequoia, dealer told us likely a year wait. Put name and wishes on list and they would call whenever one inbound, regardless of configuration. She got a Subaru Ascent.

Dear @Admin, Tom here has some good insights! 😁

I am really excited about seeing who's going to get Slate first. Do we know who among us holds the earliest reservation?

When I first checked out this forum last year I thought my 27 Apr was early... until I saw all of the 24/25ers! I missed it by that much! 😂

I am four months behind. 😭😭

I belong to the camp where folks are ready to take delivery without having seen or driven one.
