I asked Slate about V2L, V2H, and V2G.

Ideally, we would want to have all three, but I was curious about any of them. They answered very quickly:

"Great question! We don't have information to disclose on V2L, V2H, and V2G capabilities at this time. We'll have more details on features like these closer to production as we finalize specs."

Anyway, fingers crossed . At least the V2L is still confirmed as far as I know.

While the Ford Lightning has those abilities, my Ford Mach E does not.

I don't know how large the battery capacity compares, but I'd be happy just to charge at Tesla Superchargers.

V2L may be possible with the larger battery, which I will spec even for local commutes. I don’t want to plug in every night, which Is almost certain with the smaller battery. As you know the MS has amazing range, and it may take some time getting used to Slate’s lower range.

V2L has a whole range, they've already confirmed some kind of outlet in the frunk, so it does have V2L of some flavor.

V2H it just may not have the capacity to power your home much in an outage and leave a reserve to be able to drive the truck after. V2G has the same limitations, plus needs to be able to cut off in an outage for safety. If you own your home, you are probably better off just getting a battery backup system. In my area, between credits and power company incentives, some have been able to get one installed free. It's technically a lease, but with zero payments.

I'd love for the V2L to act as a split-phase 5kW generator. Then I can use it on a job site or through the house's generator connection. Fingers crossed!

I’m betting it will not have this capability due to trying to keep the sticker price down, but that would be a great feature to have!!

V2G is still a bit of a dumpster fire. There is a jungle of standards involved and getting automakers, utility companies, and grid operators on the same page has been an uphill battle. There have been some pilot programs, but nothing remotely close to widespread adoption.

V2H is simpler from software standpoint, but uses basically the same EVSE (the prevalent V2X-DC solution puts the inverter in the EVSE). Companies like Enphase have had V2H EVSE in testing for a while now, but commercial roll-out has been delayed by a desire to ensure that any changes from finalization of V2G don't render the current (relatively expensive) solutions obsolete.

Some of the big automakers have rolled out proprietary solutions. But uptake has been slow since the home infrastructure isn't cheap and people are naturally hesitant to make a big investment in something that may not work with other EVs and/or may not be compatible with an eventual V2G rollout by utilities. Obviously this is not something Slate is in a position to do, and partnering with someone like Ford to use their solution seems less than likely.

Needless to say, it would be foolish for Slate to wade into the V2G/V2H swamp at this stage. V2L is likely, but that's typically just a 120V 15A circuit, so you're pretty limited what you can do with it.

Interesting to get detailed info like that, thanks.

That's been kind of a non-specific answer from Slate though. Though they did show some stuff running in the frunk, how it was connected was unclear. It has been stated there will be a power outlet, I'm assuming waterproof if the trunk can be used as an ice chest, but that could be a built in inverter with 120v output, or it could be just a 12v outlet, and they were using 12v appliances. Unless someone has seen something more.
